Brandon Cronenberg’s horror-hit Possessor wastes no time in its release week as it shot straight up to the number one spot this week in the UK DVD and Blu-ray chart – which comes as little surprise given that the only other two new entries in this week’s chart are Cats and Dogs – Paws Unite and Brian Presley’s The Great Alaskan Race.

Sadly, last week’s gold medallist Saint Maud is nowhere to be found in the chart this week as it drops out of the Top 10 in its second week of release. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet sneaks back up two places this week to claim the second position this week, nudging Bill and Ted Face the Music down a place into third.

The Witches and Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey both refuse to budge as they retain their ranking this week, despite 3 new entries and one re-entry. Todd Phillips’ Joker is this week’s one and only re-entry in the Top 10 as it takes the spot held by The New Mutants last week, leaving the Mutants nowhere to be found in this week’s chart.

The Greatest Showman continues to climb the chart after its re-entry last week as it leaps from 9th to 6th place, but could it crack the Top 5 next week? Sam Mendes’ 1917 just made it into the chart last week, but this week it moves up another place and sits in 9th as the third new entry, The Great Alaskan Race, clinches the final spot in this week’s chart.

The Great Alaskan Race sees a group of brave mushers travel 700 miles to save the small children of Nome, Alaska from a deadly epidemic. The film had its UK DVD release on 8th Feb., so it has taken a couple of weeks for it to break into the chart.

We could be looking at a whole new chart this time next week with next week’s new releases including the likes of Mogul Mowgli, SatorMLK/FBI, The Grand Budapest Hotel‘s Criterion finally arrives in the UK, and 2001: A Space Odyssey is getting a 4K re-release.

Also out next week is a limited edition Blu-ray or Rob Savage’s Zoom horror-hit Hostwhich was released on Shudder last year. We’ve had the pleasure of chatting with Rob Savage and Jed Shepherd about their unexpected hit for Issue 2 of our digital magazine, and we also spoke to the film’s lead star, Haley Bishop, in Issue 3 about the process of making the film during lockdown and the film’s reception.
