Adding further suggestion that the next band of Ghostbusters may not be old enough to drive the Ecto-1, news comes Variety that the upcoming Jason Reitman-directed sequel to the original film has just roped in Celeste O’Connor and Logan Kim for some paranormal activity.
These two new cast members join an already eclectic band of talent consisting of Mckenna Grace (Gifted, Captain Marvel), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, It) and Carrie Coon (The Leftovers). Sony is still keeping deathly silent on plot details, but rumours are a-rumbling that the film will focus on this talented trifecta with Coon playing the mother to Mckenna and Wolfhard, and something strange begins to occur in the neighbourhood.
‘Who are you going to call?’ I hear you ask. Good question, as it turns out, Sigourney Weaver confirmed that she, Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd will be back in action this time around. Annie Potts is also rumoured to be on board, reprising her role as Janine Melnitz. Oh, and to top everything off, Paul Rudd also confirmed recently he’ll be making an appearance as a school teacher. Let’s face it every film excels when a dose of Rudd is applied.
It’ll be interesting to see how this project unfolds given the tumultuous response Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters film got following its release. While a lot of the noise blew up over the mind-blowing concept of an all-female cast (what next? the wheel?!), others voiced their opinion following the film’s release on account of it not being that great.
Here’s hoping that busting makes us feel good again, when the currently titled Ghostbusters 2020 arrives in *checks calendar* 2020.
