Harry Styles was one of the biggest risks Christopher Nolan took, and it paid off, so chances are him cutting a deal with Disney will have the same if not better results. News is in via THR that he’s sat down with the big minds behind the organisation that I think owns me at this point to discuss Prince Eric and The Little Mermaid and it looks like he might be down for the role.

The news follows the revelation that shook the world when Halle Bailey got cast as Ariel, which made some waves after fans were outraged a person of colour was playing a fictitious character that was 50% fish. She’ll be joined by Jacob Tremblay as nervous fish Flounder and Awkwafina as Ariel’s pal with an eye in the sky, Scuttle. Melissa McCarthy was approached for the role of the voice-snatching sea witch Ursula, but she still needs to sign up for the gig. There’s also a lot of backing to see Terry Crews for the role of King Trident which I’d now be totally down for if only to see him have Harry Styles in a headlock. Maybe not, though. Does Terry love One Direction?

Keeping the Disney remake ball rolling, The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall with music written by the film’s original composer Alan Menken alongside Moana and Mary Poppins Returns music maker Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The film is set to start production in early 2020.
